Troop 344 will visit the Florida Keys for a week in July of 2028. The trip will begin with a full day of ocean kayaking and snorkeling as we explored the waters around Indian Key as well as several mangrove channels where manatees are often spotted. We will also snorkel on Looe Key Reef and Sombrero Reef. Several additional stops will be made to snorkel in the local habitats, including a night snorkel to experience the bioluminescence of marine plankton. We will also include tours at the Turtle Hospital, the Dolphin Research Center, Long Key State Park Nature Trail, and the Mel Fisher Ship Wreck Museum. Last but not least will be a full day charter to visit Fort Jefferson in the Dry Tortugas that will include a tour of the fort and snorkeling around the pristine island. We will finish off the trip with some time kicking back in Key West. The Scout participants will earn their Oceanography Merit Badge as part of this trip.
