Troop 344/9344 backpacked in the beautiful Black Elk Wilderness in South Dakota which provided us an unforgettable adventure through some of the most rugged and scenic landscapes in the Black Hills. This federally designated wilderness area, named after the Lakota spiritual leader Black Elk, is home to towering granite peaks, dense pine forests, and pristine meadows teeming with wildlife. The trails we hiked included the popular Black Elk Peak, the highest point in South Dakota and the Centennial Trail. With its remote beauty and challenging terrain, the Black Elk Wilderness provided an ideal opportunity for our scouts to seek inspiration and a true backcountry experience.
